The operations of the Forum are supported by an endowment consisting of unutilized assets of the former U.S.-India Fund. The Government of India also provides the Forum each year with matching funds equal to the annual interest earnings from the endowment. In FY 2005 the operating budget of the Forum is $2.1 million in rupee equivalent. All Forum funds are in Indian rupees. As a non-profit society the Forum may also seek to support its activities by raising funds from industry and public and private sources in India, the United States and elsewhere.
INSTP programs to bridge the research interests of US and Indian institutions complement those of the Indo-US Science & Technology Forum. INSTP has enjoyed the strong financial support of the Richard F. Lounsbery Foundation, and has also received financial backing from the United States government.  INSTP has received significant in-kind contributions from both the Smithsonian Institution and The National Academies.
